The Betrayers of Osiris

Wolfram let go of Foxglove's hand, then picked up some silver shoulder plates and gauntlets and put them on, then went into a shadowy corner and changed from his normal loincloth into an armored one (i.e: a normal loincloth with chainmail on top). Finally, Wolfram put a chainmail coif on his head, with a layer of linen underneath it, then picked up a crossbow and a spare quiver of bolts and slung them on his back.
Foxglove put a chainmail shirt on over her dress and silver gauntlets, then put gold anklets on, and a gold headband around her forehead. Then she put on a belt around her waist and attached a scimitar to it.
"I didn't know you were the pharoah's right hand man" Foxglove said to Fynn.

In the mess of panicing civilians was Minnow, looking around calmly. The attack was a ruffle, but the biggest irritant was her target. She had lost him in the crowd when he went chasing after the minotaur commander, but still, she had a job to do. She took off, trailing the 'leader' of the attack.
'Leading from behind, as usual.' she throught to herself when she found the man aiming a crossbow at fynn, Wolfram and Foxglove. Regardless, she had a job to do, and she did it well. With a calm pace, she snuck up behind the man and put a hand over his mouth. No sound came but a light 'pshink' as she slammed the hidden blade in her bracer between the man's ribs and pierced his heart.
"Pitiful. You can't lead an army from behind." she murmured into his ear.
"Ha... an assassin..."
"What were you planning?" she asked as his life ebbed away.
"Our liberation... our lord..."
"What?"
"I'll give you a hint... The pharoah you see isn't the pharoah at all..."
The jackal's eyes went wide, and she snarled at him.
"Then who...?"
"He is an imposter, a double... an agent of our lord's daughter."
"Why would a priest be impersonating a pharoah?!"
"...That is the end of my hint..." the archer murmured before he went limp in the woman's arms.

(I found out that Fauns are the ones with hooves, not Satyrs, so Wolfram and Foxglove are now Fauns)

Wolfram's sharp ears heard the 'pshink' he looked around the curtain of the weapons cache with curiousity. He saw that a jackal woman had stabbed the man who had just been about to shoot them, he watched them talk silently but then the man went limp.

Having seen many people die, and many battles, Fynn was extremely experienced in the arts of war and espionage. He had been on a few spying missions in his time and he was not ready to take any threat lightly. He picked up a crossbow from the ground and discarded his plain one. Better range and easier to aim although less lethal unless you hit a critical area. He took some bolts and loaded. He brought it up, aiming at the jackal. "Turn around, and after you do, don't move a muscle..."

"Funny. I was going to say the same thing."
A female voice rang out from behind Karg. And now, emerging from behind the shadow of a rack of swords, holding something very throwable and very sharp in each hand, was a young woman who couldn't have been out of her teenage years yet. She looked like someone from the far East, with black hair and olive-colored skin. And her clothes were like nothing any of them had seen before- a strange sort of tunic, made appropriate for a young woman.
"One of you poses a threat to the Eastern Pantheon. I'm not sure who, but I'm perfectly willing to find out peacefully."
Her thin lips formed a smile.
"That way I can kill them, and the rest of you can go free. Any objections?"

Wolfram slowly turned around and faced the young woman.
"And how, exactly, would any of us be a threat to the Eastern Pantheon?" he asked her, his eyes fixed on the sharp objects in her hands.
Foxglove, however, didn't bother to turn around "Is it because we appear to be the last ones standing?" she asked, her voice cool.

Fynn rose his hands, but didn't drop his bow. Even if he did, he couldn't very well drop his gift now, could he? All he would have to do is conjure that deadly black lighting that had saved his life so many times before, but that would take out everyone in the room, and that was not a good idea. In defiance, he turned. "You're just a kid... I bet you don't even have the guts to throw that thing, rookie."

"Oh, please." The girl rolled her eyes. "You think I'm gonna fall for that trick? It would be so unprofessional. If I did throw something, I'd wind up gravely injuring someone who may very well be innocent. If I don't throw something, I'll appear weak. Luckily, there's always a third option."
Suddenly there was a BAMFing noise, and the girl was enveloped in a cloud of inky smoke. Then suddenly she was there again, right behind Karg, with one weapon up to his throat and one to his wrist.
"Now I don't have to throw anything. Oh, and if you haven't guessed, I'm not just a kid. I'm a bit too old. A few hundred years too old. I am Karma, goddess of assassins. And I don't want to hurt you people, really I don't. I just, you know, have to kill one of you."

"Karma..." he repeated gruffly. "You get what you give... If your name represented you, I should mosr certainly be scared. A commander of the egyptian army is definitely not green to battle. It would probably be a bad idea to fight a goddess though." He dropped his crossbow. "Since i'm a soldier, i'm probably the least innocent person here except for that one over there who just popped in and slit someone's throat."

Stepping out, Minnow made her way nearby Karma as the blade in her bracer pulled back in. Murmuring something to the godess, she stepped back before kneeling down and bowing her head.

Karma nodded.
"This woman is under my protection. Make of that what you will."
Then, unexpectedly, Karma released her hold on Fynn and stepped back.
"And it appears that I have made a dreadful mistake. I was sent here from the Orient because the Eastern Gods had sensed a possible threat in this area. But not all is as it seems...it would seem. If you people are joined together, I should like to join your party, at least until I can get everything figured out."
She gestured at Minnow.
"She would have to come, too. How is that?"

"You expect immediate trust after you nearly lodged a knife in my throat?" Fynn said dumbfounded. He wondered if maybe Karma had not read the more recent posts that indicated that Karg was only Karg in his minotaur state.

(ooc: Problem solved.)

"No. I might expect gratefulness." Karma shrugged. "Especially after I tip you off to the mage battalion that's probably going to burst through the door any second. You might want to do something considering that."

"Mage battalion..." Fynn repeated under his breath. "Precautions are easy to take." He spun around, floating in the air, his cape billowing in the non-present wind. He arched back quickly in midair and an invisible but very palpable burst of energy surrounded the room. "This whole city is constructed in representation of a spell form that weakens everyone's magical abilities except those of the personal guard of the Pharoah. They amplify mine. The only way this battalion of mages could even harm us now that I have ignited that spell is to link their abilities into one spell. This does not usually cross the minds of mages unless they're very experienced, and even then it would take all of their concentration to kill a single one of us anyway. The don't have a chance from the time they open that door."

"Mage battalions are easy enough to handle" agreed Foxglove "You just gotta know how to handle them is all" she added.
Wolfram looked at her "Somehow, I know you're not just a cloak bearer" he commented.
Foxglove gave him an enigmatic smile, then turned to Karma.
"Join our party if you wish" she said, then looked at Minnow "You too, the more of us the better"
Wolfram took his crossbow off his back and waited for the mage battalion to come through the doors.

"I still don't buy it." Fynn said seriously. "You wouldn't either if he'd had his knife to your throat." He looked at the godess. "We will let her come along, but she is to be watched closely. I will handle that myself, since she's so otherworldly attractive." he arched an eyebrow. "I would never have thought that a goddess would be so tangible. That a goddess would be standing right in front of me."

"That a goddess would be so utterly unattracted? Yes, it's amazing, isn't it," Karma said. "Now if you're sure the mages are so utterly taken care of, we should probably go. Wasn't it your plan to hightail it out of here?"

Fynn, for the first time in a long while, smiled. His unnaturally perfect and white teeth gleaming on the light of the sun entering through the window. He stood up straight in a kind of regal pose. When at his full height, Fynn was probably one of the tallest people in the region, but not tall enough to look like a mutant. He towered over everyone in the room by atleast a head. His long, blonde hair hung low down his back, and stopped around the middle. The sheen of it reflected light almost as well as his teeth did. He wondewred just how long his ruse would work. He was a protagonist, yes, but he was no mortal. He was her equal in every way except one. That one weakness was the fact that her beauty stunned him. He knew that she could manipulate him without any trouble for this reason alone. He had lied about the oprigin of his shapeshifting. No human being could do such a thing. He was a God, and he was born as such. The God of Order, Justice and the power of Xaiad.

"Very nice, good show, I'm glad to have a powerful ally on my side, and all that," Karma said, rolling her eyes. "But please quit dilly-dallying and answer the question. Are we going or aren't we?"

Fynn glanced around the room before centering his raptor gaze on the window. "there. We exit through there. The mages will come in, thinking we're in here since they never saw us leave, which will result in their demise. We exit through the window." He pointed toward the Goddess and politely made a 'ladies first' gesture.

"Sounds good," Karma said. With all the ease of...well, of an assassin, Karma hoisted herself up to the window's ledge, then clambered through and dropped to the floor below- a stone walkway that ringed the edge of the building. Just a few yards below that was the sandy ground.

Fynn diverted his gaze when he noticed that he was stearing at her backside. His face went red. After letting everyone else out, he, too climbed through the window and onto the streets.

"Great." the jackal muttered to herself as she glanced off into the distance.
"Get a move on, there's a circle of red wizards not far from here. This place is going to be toast soon."
"Hm?"
"Remember that 'crossing minds' thing?"
"Yeah..."
"That's their specialty. Go."
With that, Minnow seemed to dissapear into the shadows, off on some sort of errand.

"Do we finish off the mages now?" Wolfram asked Fynn.
Foxglove, meanwhile, was figuring out the best way they could all get to the palace without being seen. Boats were no good, they were easy to spot.
There was a sudden crash as the mages entered the weapons cache. Foxglove spun around to face the window and silently drew her scimitar.

"Put your weapon away." Fynn said quietly.
"My web will take care of them if they so much as spark their gift. Remember, the capital is built as a giant spell form. I suppose I forgot to mention that before these walls were built, the spellform was traced in blood. Anyone want to guess how much blood that would take?"
He made a wide gesture.
"Alot. And blood is the most powerful spell constructing supplex. It's not commonly used at all anymore except by practicioners of dark magick"
